What It's Like to Compete in a Grits Rolling Contest

Every spring, the town of St. George in South Carolina hosts the World Grits Festival, a three-day event that celebrates all things grits. This year, Atlas Obscura Foods Editor Sam O'Brien participated in the crown jewel of the festival: the Rolling in the Grits contest, where contestants have 10 seconds to dive into a grits-filled kiddie pool and trap as much of the traditional Southern food on their bodies as they can.
