We happened on an organ concert -impressive architecture and sound to match. Around the bell tower was a beautiful small art installation called "501 nails" representing years since the reformation. View from tower was windy but scenic.
You have to walk a few km. uphill, but there are scenic views along the gorge below the falls. Also, an interesting little power station on a side path. Open the door to see the generator.
Spend some time watching the icebergs in the river as they shift and breaks up. This gives a sense of the powerful forces in play that you do not see if you are quick.
Nobody mentioned the green algae that float thickly in the pool. Walk on over a little cliff and look for a hot water pipe to a little basin in the icy river. It's 40 degrees C in there! I would have loved to spend more time climbing and exploring the valley.
When booking the ferry ticket count on at least 4 hours to view the museum, and walk the craters. But you should spend the whole day. Look at the old fort and broken water tower at the original inlet, and eat at restaurant Gott, it's really good.
