The Playhouse Swillburger

Finding historic churches across the United States isn’t unusual, but this church in Rochester isn’t your typical Sunday morning chapel. The building was constructed by the Second German Baptist Church in 1890 and hosted several community organizations before it became the home of the Playhouse Swillburger in 2015.

The Playhouse Swillburger is a colorful burger joint, complete with a bar and arcade. It also plays host to an array of pinball and arcade machines in concert with tasty milkshakes and game-themed alcoholic drinks. The venue has an alive and cheerful feel with bright decor and a cozy interior. An array of arcade games are scattered throughout the building, though they’re concentrated on the main floor between the bar area and burger area. All the machines are activated by tokens which can be purchased right next to the main entrance.

The balcony provides a great opportunity to people watch from above, sit and enjoy a meal, or play one of the arcade games. There’s also a beautiful stained glass window that provides a view down to the street. The arcade and burger joint are open to families with children before 10 p.m. After, the venue is restricted to adults 21 and older.
