Visitors to this site can experience in full detail the lives of the ancient Romans, from sights, sounds, smells, touch, and tastes.

The reconstruction of the city quarter was based on archaeological findings using antique technology and manual labor to accurately recreate the 4th-century measurements. A formerly significant Roman settlement and capital of the province Pannonia Superior, this city began as a temporary winter camp in the early first century.

It was designed as a stronghold at the northern border of the Roman Empire along the Danube River and quickly grew between the 1st and 4th centuries. Carnuntum was a strategic, political, and economic point in the province and contained both a military zone and a civilian city. It was even larger than Vindobona, or modern-day Vienna.
