The name Mölndal literally means “Valley of Mills.” This small town on the outskirts of Gothenburg was one of the early centers of industrialization in this part of Sweden. The waterfalls at Kvarnby provided the power for early mills and factories.

The area was industrialized in nature until the late 1970s. Many of the factories are now closed, but the waterfall still flows. It’s now a local tourist attraction easily accessible on foot from the Mölndal railway and tram station.
