A short distance from Parvati Hill, there is a beautiful garden that was constructed as a symbol of friendship between sister cities Pune and Okayama—to encourage cultural, traditional, economic, industrial, and friendship ties. It’s called Pune Okayama Friendship Garden. It was also named P.L. Deshpande Garden after the legendary Indian writer and litterateur Purushottam Laxman Deshpande.

Japanese Gardens are known for their elegant naturalism, charm, and sense of peace and tranquility. This garden is based on the Korakuen Garden in Okayama, which was built in 1700. Spread over 10 acres, the Pune Okayama Friendship Garden is said to be the largest Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan.

It’s designed to bring people close to nature. A place where one can enjoy lawns, ponds, hills, bridges, streams, and forests. It is based on the philosophy of Yin and Yang. The natural elements on which the garden is based help revitalize visitor’s senses The garden is a fantastic place to relax in the midst of nature.
