Be prepared to journey back in time some 200 years when paying a visit to this town. Hope Town features one of the last operational kerosene-fueled lighthouses in the world.

The lighthouse was built in 1862 and was painted in red and white candy-stripes. One of the most iconic structures in the Bahamas, the lighthouse must be hand-cranked every two hours to remain operational. 

Know Before You Go

To get to the lighthouse, take the shuttle over to Hope Town Inn and Marina and follow the signs to the lighthouse. There, you can climb the stairs to the top and go out on the balcony and enjoy the view. Don't forget to visit the gift shop directly below the lighthouse.
