Driving up the mountains through the mist, this magnificent chapel looms over visitors as they park their vehicle in Peneda-Gerês National Park.

According to local lore, an apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared at the site of the chapel to a young shepherd. The current sanctuary was constructed during the 18th or 19th-century. The chapel has since been a pilgrimage destination during the first week of September.

In front of the church is a stairway lined by statues that represent the virtues of Faith, Charity, and Glory. The chapel contains a garden and there is also a waterfall next to the church.
