About

Founded in 2010 by Dewey Thompson, the North Brooklyn Community Boat Club can be found at their temporary home on Ash Street alongside the Pulaski Bridge.

The Broadway Stages company, also on Ash, loaned the plot of land (which has water access to Newtown Creek) to the club in 2012. The group is a recipient of $5 million from the NCEBT fund, which it intends to use to construct a permanent boat house in the GMDC building on Manhattan Avenue. The group is dedicated to promoting boating, kayaking, and environmental education programs in North Brooklyn.

In their own words "Getting people on the water is not just about recreation - it is about connecting our own lives to this historically active, and often mistreated, estuary that surrounds us. We want to empower people and help shape the future for our waterways, so that it is not left in the hands of unchallenged developers and environmentally harmful industry."
