About

Combining traditional traits and materials alongside modern Catalan vaults and shapes, this parabolic structure was designed by Lluís Parellada Muncunill, a Spanish modernist architect whose impressive work was inspired by the great Gaudí.

Gaudí's influence is apparent in the use of elliptical arches, white walls, and the high tower, making Masia Freixa undoubtedly the most representative example of Terrassenc modernism standing today. Muncunill's own district style can be seen in the restrained detailing, giving it the more structured, clean look that Gaudí's work sometimes lacked.

For many years, this white, crystal-embedded building was home to the Municipal Conservatory of Music, which is currently located in another building nearby. Before it was renovated into the architectural jewel is now, Masia Freixa was a simple textile factory. Muncunill created the structure to be the family home of textile mogul Joaquim Freixa i Argemí.
