About

"Jackson," at the RTC 4th Street Station is 1962 GMC "fishbowl" bus modified by artist Donald Lipski and mounted on a pole for public display. It soars over a corner of East 4th and Lake streets, announcing the main transit hub in Reno.

Lipski filleted the transit bus, which once roamed the streets of Newark, New Jersey, and reassembled the bus so that it is narrower than the original and tapers toward the rear. The frosted windows light up at night, as do the running, tail, and headlights. "Jackson," the name of the sculptor's son, is the destination sign on the front of the bus.

Lipski is perhaps best known for "The Yearling" now located outside of the Denver Public Library. The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County included "Jackson" as part of the 2009-2010 construction of the $13 million, 2.5-acre transit hub.

As a work of public art, "Jackson" can be viewed 24/7/365 but it is particularly striking at dusk.
