Hans Christian Andersen is seen by many as Denmark’s most famous author, writing many well-known fairy tales such as Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, and the Flying Suitcase. His suitcase was put on display at Copenhagen airport as a nod to the last of these.

The suitcase dates back to the early 19th century, being used by the author during his 15 years of travel through Europe. He loved to travel and explore, often citing the motto “to travel is to live.” The suitcase is on display in a glass box with a summary of the flying suitcase tale beside it.

Know Before You Go

The suitcase is inside the intercontinental terminal of the airport, so you can only see it if you are flying out of the EU.

It is sometimes possible to get access to this terminal by asking the passport checkers.
