A prototype of a Futuro house from 1968 can be found in Munich next to the Pinakothek der Moderne. As less than 100 of these plastic, prefabricated UFO-shaped houses were ever made from Finnish architect Matti Suuronen’s famous futuristic design, this is a rare architectural treat. Among the few Futuro houses still standing today, this is one of the most easily accessible examples. Don’t miss it when visiting any of the Pinakotheks, or take a 10-minute walk from the Residenz.

Know Before You Go

The interior of the house is open Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (The interior is simply a circular bench inside, it does not have the futuristic furniture some of the Futuro houses were furnished with.) As the house is in public space (on the lawn of a museum), the exterior can be visited at any time. Weather affording, you can just have a picnic next to it!
