Untold Earth: A Video Series From Atlas Obscura and PBS
Join us as we explore our planet’s strangest, most unique natural wonders.
Here at Atlas Obscura, we strive to tell the stories of the incredible world we all share. As a community of wanderers and explorers, curiosity is at the core of what we do. Since 2023, Atlas Obscura has partnered with Nature and PBS Digital Studios to create Untold Earth, a digital video series dedicated to exploring the mysteries behind the world’s strangest and most unique natural wonders.
Each short episode focuses on a unique natural phenomenon, from a volcano that won’t stop erupting to the dirty secret behind expensive truffles. We take complex concepts and make them clear by talking to the people who understand them best—from scientific experts to local people, the ones most directly affected by climate change and our rapidly shifting ecosystems. Check out the trailer to see some of the amazing places we’re exploring.
Season one took us to the iconic redwoods of Northern California, a Canadian town that keeps getting visited by icebergs, and more. In season two, which launches on February 4, 2025, we’ll travel to a forest that’s actually just one ancient, massive tree, a boiling river in the Amazon rainforest, and beyond.
Join us to see what else is in store on this journey through our planet’s strangest, most incredible places.
This story originally ran in 2023; it has been updated for 2025.
