About

In the middle of the vast wilderness that is Quebec's Groulx Mountains sits a group of wonderfully creative art cabins that have been built over the years by the Amis des monts Groulx (Friends of the Groulx Mountains).

Each year new artwork is made when the "Friends" get together. These cabins are also at the trailhead of one of the Groulx's ever-developing network of trails and all of this is part of the World Biosphere Reserve Manicouagan-Uapishka. The cabins themselves, as well as all the outdoor sculptures around the site, are like nothing else in the world. There's an outhouse with a grassy "green roof," a cabin with a DIY sauna inside, an outdoor mirror with a Jean Cocteau quote painted on it, lovely carved and painted totem poles and countless other hidden artworks to discover. As the years go by the installation continues to grow and there will always be something new to see.

What's most impressive about all of this is the fact that it's hundreds of kilometers away from any kind of town or other cultural institution. It may very well be one of the most isolated art projects in the world. Good thing these art pieces are built into cabins, otherwise visitors would be lost in the woods when trying to view some of the most unique crafts in the world.
