Nestled amongst the trees of Fulmodeston village, reside the unique ruins of Saint Mary’s Church. Once complete with its own graveyard, this previously breathtaking church is now crumbling—swathed in brambles and cascading vines.

It’s one of two old, defunct churches in the village. The first of which is known as St. John the Baptist. It can be found in a woodland area of the village up an old farm track. The ruins have the remanence of a tower, as well as a large graveyard.

There are a few local legends associated with the church. There is supposedly a coffin that was never buried still lying beneath the rubble. There have also been reported sightings of the infamous Black Shuck, a demonic hound said to haunt the whole of Norfolk.

Know Before You Go

It's easiest to access the church by parking in the center of the village and walking. There is very limited parking near the ruins.
