Famous Scottish-American steel magnate Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline in 1835. After he made his fortune in the United States he became one of the world’s greatest philanthropists. Among his greatest contributions were the 2,811 libraries that his foundation funded across the globe.

This library located in his home town happens to be the first. The museum has been extended several times over its lifetime and most recently received a fantastic modern museum block.
