This is the UK’s second longest pier at a kilometre long, also the UK’s longest overland pier and the UK’s oldest iron pier which also crosses the UK’s largest manmade lake, the Marine Lake. As if these weren’t accolades enough, the pier, which has been standing for over 150 years, also won a pier of the year award in 2003.

From the end of the pier you can see Blackpool to the North, including Blackpool Tower and the Pepsi Max Big One Rollercoaster, beyond it you can see the Southern Fells and the Pennine Hills on a clear day. To the South, you can see the Mouth of the River Mersey and beyond that Snowdonia.

Know Before You Go

You can get the train into Southport and it is a short walk to the front, there is plentiful parking at the Ocean Plaza or the town is serviced by a good bus service.
