Rozenburg is a small port town in South Holland that has welcomed ships coming and going for centuries. On the east end of the island is a 1,600 meter long “wind wall,” which could be mistaken for a modern art installation. The wall is made of 100 slabs of concrete, some rectangular, some cylindrical, each 10 to 18 meters across, reaching 25 meters above the banks.

The narrow canal made it difficult for ships to efficiently navigate through the rough winds, and the wall significantly reduces the wind’s force, making ship traffic run smoother.
