This is a sycamore tree grown from a seed that traveled to the Moon aboard Apollo 14 on January 31, 1971. The sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) planted at Coudersport Area Recreational Park in the late 1970s and has grown to a height of over 40 feet.
There’s a plaque commemorating the tree, which is one of many “moon trees” that were planted across the country after the seeds were carried on Apollo 14.
