About

Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Menorca, the Naveta des Tudons stands as one of the island's most mysterious prehistoric monuments. This structure, dating back to the Bronze Age, is shaped like an inverted boat, which is precisely what naveta means in Catalan. It served as a collective tomb, and its remarkable state of preservation allows visitors to vividly imagine the ancient rituals that once took place here. As you stand before this ancient edifice, it's hard not to feel a sense of awe and curiosity about the people who built it and their way of life.

What makes it particularly captivating is its architectural ingenuity. Constructed using large, carefully fitted stones without any mortar, the naveta showcases the building techniques of Menorca's early inhabitants. The entrance leads into a narrow corridor and a small chamber where human remains and funerary offerings were discovered.

The monument is surrounded by a serene landscape of fields and forests, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll or a quiet moment of reflection. The combination of historical significance and picturesque setting creates a unique and enriching experience that is both inspiring and meditative. So, pack your sense of adventure and your camera, and get ready to explore one of Menorca's most fascinating prehistoric sites.

Know Before You Go

The Naveta des Tudons is located just a few kilometers west of Ciutadella, Menorca's ancient capital. It's easily accessible by car, with a well-signposted route and a convenient parking area nearby. From Ciutadella, it's only a short drive along the Me-1 road.

To make the most of your visit, consider going early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the site is less crowded and the lighting is perfect for photography. The monument is open year-round, but spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the ground can be uneven. Bring water, especially during the summer months, as there are no facilities on-site. While there are informational signs providing background on the naveta, a guidebook or hiring a local guide can enhance your understanding and appreciation of this remarkable site.
