About

In the heart of Mississippi, nestled within the walls of the Eudora Welty Library in Jackson, is an unexpected find—the Mississippi Writers Room.

Step into downtown Jackson's private haven of literature and discover the Mississippi Writers Room. This inviting 900-square-foot space hosts an inspiring glimpse into one of America's richest and most distinctive literary histories. By design, it is a refreshing discovery for authors, literary fans, and history buffs alike. From photographs of notable figures to booklet handouts featuring such writers as Elizabeth Spencer and Borden Deal, this room offers an interactive way for visitors to explore Mississippi's contributions to literature.

Presented as a home inside the library, the classic gable end roof has no shingles but opens overhead into the library. Enter the doors to view a display case and overview of the room. Four such displays allude to large windows allowing visitors to peek inside the lives of Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, and Tennessee Williams. Everything from poetry and fiction to biographies and nonfiction is represented in this impressive space. A cozy home presents framed photographs of loved ones. Likewise, images and descriptions of notable authors line the outer walls.

Update as of March 2024: Closed indefinently.
