About

The Muslim-majority country of Qatar is home to over 2,000 mosques. In the heart of Al Shahaniya, one stands out from the crowd.

This 88-foot-tall mosque leans at a striking 20-degree angle, with both the minaret and mosque structure inclined. Designed by Sheikh Faisal, it was built using locally sourced white stones and adorned with colorful stained glass, blending traditional Islamic architecture with modern innovation.

Opened to the public in 2023, the mosque features advanced structural engineering, including an eight-foot-deep foundation supported by eight piles and equipped with 30 sensors for safety monitoring. The unique slant and eco-conscious construction reflect Qatar’s commitment to preserving heritage while embracing creativity.
