About

In Pune, there is a residential area called Model Colony. Nestled in the midst of the buildings and quiet lanes is a stunning natural spot.

An old lake exists in this area known as Model Colony Lake. It's also called Lakaki Lake, named after the industrialist Laxmanrao Kashinath Kirloskar.

According to sources, this place was once a stone quarry. Stone from here was used to build Fergusson College which is located nearby. Thereafter, the place was developed as a nature reserve.

Based on studies and findings of experts, it is said that the lake supports a very well-balanced ecosystem and various life forms. Many migratory bird species frequent this lake. One can find ducks, geese, storks, cranes, egrets, and many other birds.

There is a nice walking track with benches along one portion of the perimeter of the lake. At the entrance, there is a beautiful garden with a gazebo.

The lake garden provides peace and tranquility, and visitors can often find people jogging, reading, relaxing, and enjoying the cool atmosphere around the lake.
