About

In the 18th-century, an eccentric gentleman by the name of Colonel Lacy living in the area decided to carve several caves into the bank overlooking the River Eden.

Attempting to emulate a nearby set of genuinely inhabited neolithic caves, he used the dramatically carved caves he created as a place to entertain guests and as a wine store. Today, the caves still overlook the picturesque Eden but reside off the beaten path.

The dark, multi-chambered interior is littered with graffiti and can be quite eerie. However, the outside remains as impressive as ever.
