Construction on the fort began during the late 17th-century.  It’s believed that it took two years just to lay the first foundations. Fort de la ConchĂ©e remained a military outpost until 1900. During World War II, German forces used the island fortress for target practices causing serious damages. to the batteries. Since 1989, the structure has undergone relentless renovations and restoration. 

Know Before You Go

Due to its location, the fort can only be visited during France's two Heritage Days.
