Katsuo-ji Temple
Visitors to this temple are greeted by a massive collection of wooden dolls said to bring good fortune.
This incredible temple is hidden between the mountains and resides on the outskirts of Osaka. The temple is still relatively obscure due to its difficult terrain.
Dedicated to Daruma, victory-oriented luck deities, the records of the temple’s existence dates back to around 727 CE. One of the most peculiar things about this temple is that it is filled with small wooden figurines of daruma. These were purchased by visitors, then left at the temple as a sign of gratitude in hopes of good luck.
The temple’s altitude and charming natural surroundings make this a magical place.
Know Before You Go
Access can be achieved by bus, but there is another route by foot that you can take if you walk from Mino park. It's a bit long and there's a large track that goes upwards, so it's not recommended if you are not in good physical shape.
Transport is a bit complicated, so renting a car is recommended. There is a line of buses (29) that can be accessed from the northern train stations of Osaka. A taxi is also an option, just 10 minutes, but Japanese taxis are expensive, so not recommended unless you are a group of four people that can split the costs.
