About

It looks like one big wave could pull the Hotel Puntagrande straight into the Atlantic Ocean. Precariously sitting on the coast of the Canary Islands, this 600-square-meter lodging is the smallest hotel in the world in one of the most impressive locales.

With only four double rooms and fairly sparse accommodations, you can bet you are not paying for luxury at Punta Grande. But location and novelty are the names of the game, and this miniature hotel takes the cake for both.

Sitting on the volcanic island of El Hierro, the building was once a customs office but is now a decaying hotel that only attracts a few visitors who take the time and have the adventurous spirit needed to reach the remote destination.

Much of the interior is furnished with recycled wood and other ship parts from wrecks that have washed ashore on the Canaries. Although there isn't cable TV or king-sized jacuzzis, the view of the ragged shore formed by volcanic eruption is enough of a draw to make the Hotel Puntagrande worthwhile. While overall stoic, the hotel does feature a dining room, and a small, and relatively modern living room.
