This World War II battle site was known as Hacksaw Ridge. The area was made famous after the film of the same name followed the life of Corporal Desmond Doss during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Here, Doss singly handily saved the lives of 70 plus men under heavy enemy fire.

Know Before You Go

Hacksaw Ridge is on the grounds of Urasoe Castle, also worth a visit.
