About

With a rotor that has a diameter measuring 90 meters mounted on top of a lattice tower standing 160 meters, the Fuhrlander Wind Turbine Laasow is the tallest wind turbine anywhere in the world. All told, it measures 205 meters tall. Designed by Fuhrlander, the tower is capable of generating 2,500 kW if there is enough wind blowing.

This isn't, though, the world's most powerful wind turbine. Old Enercon E-126 wind turbines can generate up to 6,000 kW and new models are capable of generating 7,500 kW of power. The rotors on those machines, though, have a diameter nearly equal to the height of the rotor stand, making the blades spin a lot closer to Earth.

Located in the village of Laasow, Brandenburg, Germany, the Fuhrlander Wind Turbine Laasow went into service in 2006. Although wind turbines of the same type and even taller ones have been planned, no other wind turbine has yet topped this one.
