Frontier Army Museum

The Old Rolling Wheels Museum began after the closure of the wagon shop at Ft. Leavenworth. The historical wagons were stored in the museum and slowly more military regalia was added. Today there are over 7,000 artifacts at the expansive museum.

Being the largest military post west of the Mississippi, Ft. Leavenworth was the natural place for an army museum.  The fort was a jumping-off point for the Lewis and Clark expedition and the location of the first Buffalo Soldier regiments.  

By 1960, the museum was recognized as a national army museum and changed its name. The museum has exhibits documenting the Lewis and Clark expedition and the history of Fort Leavenworth, but its crown jewel is the campaign gallery. Filled with biplanes, fiberglass calvary, authentic sleighs, chuck wagons, and military artifacts galore.
