About

Fort McClary is a unique structure in coastal northern New England's history and is well preserved. The fort was active for about 275 years, from the Revolutionary War until World War I. Being in Maine however, the fort saw little to no combat

The scenic beauty of the site is evident, as the location is positioned with a commanding view of the Piscataqua River that separates Maine from New Hampshire.

The most iconic element of the park is the 19th-century blockhouse that dominates the skyline of the area Many of the structural elements that existed throughout the fort's active service still remain. These include the rear bastion and wall, a granite powder magazine, the rifleman's house, a coastal cannon, and earthworks.
