Drastic Park
A collection of mechanical beasts with some interesting names.
A group of metal dinosaur sculptures stands guard at the entrance to a small neighborhood in Windsor.
The creatures are made of railroad ties, excavator buckets, air tanks, and other bits of scrap metal welded together. Metal labels in front of the beasts identify them as Alloliberalsaurus, Erysocialismops, and Tuoujangocommunisaurus, all of which are parodies of the actual dinosaur names. Another label identifies the title of the entire installation as Drastic Park.
The prehistoric beasts have been on display at this site for many years. In the past, their metal bodies were bare, unpainted, and heavily rusted by the elements, but they recently received a fresh coating of vibrant painted colors.
Know Before You Go
The sculptures are located at the entrance to Clapp Road North just off Route 159. There is no parking at the site, though the shoulder is wide enough for a single car to pull over.
The closest parking lot is a half-mile away at Hayden Station Shops at the junction of Palisado Ave and Hayden Station Road.
