There is much to love about historic Texas cemeteries. They don’t have to be super old to hold a certain mystique. However, the much older cemeteries have the most character.
In the unmarked Davis Cemetery, many of the old gravestones in the area belong to many of the founding families of Leander, Texas. The most well-known grave, however, is the mass grave of the Webster Massacre victims. John Webster was leading a party of 13 to begin a new settlement in West Texas when they ran into a tribe of Comanches. A battle ensued and all the men in the traveling party were killed. Mrs. Webster and two of her children were kidnapped. They would all eventually escape or be freed a few years later.
Know Before You Go
