About
The Crookston School was an educational institution for children of the former mining town of Wallyford. Established during the late 19th-century, it was the home of the World War I Crookston Memorial, which has since been relocated.
The school itself was abandoned around the 1970s, after which it fell into disrepair and was soon covered in graffiti. In 2015 and 2017, the ruins were damaged by arsonists.
However, given its location on the site of the historical 16th-century Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, its grounds were long in consideration for a potential visitor/heritage center to showcase the history of the battle. As of November 2020, the proposal was scrapped since Crookston School was purchased by a different party.
The remaining structures of the school were turned into part of a car service garage and are no longer accessible to the public.
