About

Amoneburg is a town in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in Hesse , Germany, on a mountain and is built around a castle of the same name, Burg Amoneburg.

The mountain is a basalt cone that can be seen from a great distance. Amoneburg is situated in the Amoneburg Basin, a hollow suspected of being a meteorite crater. Though final proof has not yet been produced, tectites and shattercones have been found, and the crater is likely the third largest impact crater in Germany.
