Abigail Adams was not only the wife of second United States President John Adams, but she was also a trusted advisor throughout his political career. From this strong position, she did her part to champion women’s rights, famously urging her husband and the other founding fathers to “remember the ladies” when writing the laws of the new nation.

Abigail joined other leaders at the time to argue that men should not have total authority over their wives, and that women should have access to a formal education. Abigail Adams is entombed alongside her husband John Adams, son John Quincy Adams, and his wife Louisa Catherine Adams, in the family crypt beneath the United First Parish Church in Quincy, Massachusetts
