Bug Eater's Delight

Scorpions, mealworms, and crickets mingle with rainbow sprinkles on the Peculiarium's famous sundae.

In addition to beguiling customers with an odd array of sights, Portland’s Freakybuttrue Peculiarium offers a menu of unusual dishes, including the Bug Eater’s Delight. In 2011, the odd shop and museum began offering the special sundae, which gets topped with rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, and an ample helping of dried mealworms, crickets, and scorpions. Diners can swap in a variety of ice cream flavors and opt for a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Polishing off the creamy-crunchy treat will win the eater a spot in the museum’s “exclusive” Insectarian Club.

The sundae is one of the Peculiarium’s most popular insect-a-licious offerings, which also include a mealworm-studded cookie. For some added oddity, larvae lovers can play with the shop’s green screen, allowing them to eat their Bug Eater’s Delight on the moon or accompanied by a giant squirrel.
