These big upright silver letters in the desert offer proof to visitors that they’ve been to The End of the World. The big, upright silver Hollywood-sign-style letters were created in 2022 by artist Jack Pierson, who has a history of rescuing and repurposing evocative signage from seedy, abandoned bars, motels, and other establishments.
He describes this patch of the Mojave desert, locally nicknamed Wonder Valley, as “a place known for those who drop off the edge of civilization.” Long a haven for artists and other bohemian types, it has a powerful pull for anyone looking to get off the grid.
