Traveling with Atlas Obscura amid COVID-19 How We’re Adapting Our Trips Destination Requirements (via Embassy Pages)
Trip Overview

Los Angeles is a world city, a global hub that boasts the busiest port in the western hemisphere. But it is also a frontier city – forward-looking, boundaryless, experimental, and adventuresome. Here, rewards await those daring enough to chase impossible dreams and build unimaginable futures. All of this is especially true in L.A.’s boundless food scene, where taco stands hold as much allure as Michelin-starred restaurants, and a drive through the city can take you on a culinary journey around the world. On this deep dive, we’ll explore the local neighborhoods where hidden alleyways, busy street corners, backyards, and shopping malls showcase what is the most exciting and complex -- and ultimately, rewarding -- culinary culture in America.

Our partner, Culinary Backstreets: In order to create and curate this unique experience, we’ve partnered closely with Culinary Backstreets, a global guide to local eats that publishes restaurant reviews and features on local culinary culture. They bring these stories to life on culinary tours and special events, offered in 12 cities around the world, and have extensive international experience with all things gastronomical.

Gastro Obscura Trips: inspiring wonder and curiosity about the world through food and drink.

  • Indulge in the best street eats and taste why the taco reigns supreme
  • Enjoy sunset and California wines from beneath the olive trees of Barnsdall Park, L.A.’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Have a quintessential LA Movie Night at one of city’s classic independent theaters
  • Explore L.A.’s vibrant neighborhoods with local guides and experts
  • Learn about LA's inventive, unique, and influential architecture
  • Stay at a stylish Hollywood hotel in the heart of the city

Itineraries and daily schedules are subject to change. We expect to do everything listed in the itinerary, though the order may be rearranged based on weather or other local conditions.

Traveling Solo?

You’re in good company. Solo travelers typically make up about half of our small groups. With curiosity at the center of our experiences, there’s a natural camaraderie that develops over the course of a trip. We have two options for you:

Shared Room (subject to the latest Covid-19 guidelines): You’ll be matched with another solo traveler of the same gender.

Private Room: Have your own room, subject to availability, for a supplemental cost of $630. After booking your trip, please request a private room when you fill out your traveler information form and we’ll add the option to your booking and final balance. The capacity for private rooms is limited and will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
