Trip Overview

Hungary is a country of innovators and original thinkers, and its capital is a beautiful, dynamic, and inspiring city. The country has an incredibly rich and varied food tradition reaching back millennia, including a strong Jewish influence that is at the heart of the country's dynamic food scene. Hungarian cuisine is a multi-faceted creation - a long tradition of rich comfort foods, and innovative techniques with French influence using local ingredients. From the regional cheeses, the incredible wines, cured meats, bread, pastries, and elegant multi-layered tortas, Hungary has it all! Join us on this gastronomic adventure to find the best of Hungary’s cuisine and wine. Along the way, we’ll explore Budapest’s incredible architecture and delight in some surprising and quirky finds.

Traveling Solo?

You’re in good company. Solo travelers typically make up about half of our small groups. With curiosity at the center of our experiences, there’s a natural camaraderie that develops over the course of a trip. We have two options for you:

Shared Room: You’ll be matched with another solo traveler of the same gender.

Private Room: Have your own room, subject to availability, for a supplemental cost of $840. After booking your trip, please request a private room when you fill out your traveler information form and we’ll add the option to your booking and final balance.

Arrival & Departure

You should plan to arrive in Budapest by 3 p.m. on Day 1. The group will gather for orientation and pre-dinner drinks in the hotel lobby at 6 p.m. on Day 1. You are free to depart anytime on Day 9. No trip to Budapest is complete without a day spent at the thermal baths and medicinal water springs - Budapest isn’t known as the “City of Spas” without good reason - so we recommend adding a day to the beginning or end of your trip to experience this on your own. The two most popular and recommended spas in Budapest are Szechenyi Bath and the Gellert Baths.

Activity Level

Travelers should be comfortable staying on their feet for long stretches at a time and walking up to four miles over the course of a day, including up hills and stairs. Days usually start with a leisurely breakfast and then set out around 9:00 a.m. to explore the city. We break for long leisurely lunches over superb meals and wine pairings by local chefs at hidden gems known only to locals. Most days, activities are planned in the morning with the afternoons free for independent exploration.

Trip FAQ

Your participation in this trip will provide significant financial contributions to the communities we visit, directly supporting small, family-owned businesses and the unsung heroes of the restaurants and vineyards—hardworking, independent people who, through their daily working life, are working to preserve local traditions embedded in wine and food. Aside from the financial support that comes from your trip fees, you can contribute to the preservation of community spirit and memory by sharing the stories of the places and people we visit, and honoring the traditions we encounter along the way.
