Trip Overview
Overview

Salta and the Northwest of Argentina once lay at the heart of the Inca Empire and their influence remains, woven in amongst the Spanish colonial architecture, strong gaucho culture, and otherworldly landscapes of this extraordinary region. Salta and its surroundings share more traditions, local delicacies, and indigenous languages with the Quechan peoples of neighboring Bolivia and Chile than with the rest of Argentina. The landscape is a patchwork of immense gorges and spectacular rock formations. Mountain roads wind through gorges, desert, and cactus forests and lead to the world’s highest-altitude vineyards and some fabulous wineries. Join us on this exciting journey where we will explore easygoing villages and hike through gorgeous natural wonders, all while enjoying traditional estancia hospitality and superb local wines.

Highlights
  • Taste the unique flavor of Argentina’s high altitude wines
  • Gaze in awe upon the spectacular rock formations
  • Warm hospitality and rich intersection of the region’s gaucho and indigenous cultures
  • Reach new heights at the Salinas Grandes salt flats
  • Revel in the landscapes, wines, cuisine, and music of the mountains and desert
