About

When looking for old Viking towns, one expects to find them in Scandinavia or maybe the northern United Kingdom, but oddly enough, it is possible to find one near the German Alps in Bavaria.

Flake is a fictional town from the adventures of "Vicky the Viking," a children's book, cartoon, and movie series, and the home of the titular Wicky. It was built as a set for the 2008 movie "Vicky and the Strong Men" where the alpine backdrop of the area served as a clever approximation of the Norwegian fjords, but without the constant rainy weather.

The village was used again for the 2010 sequel and part of it, including a totem pole, some houses, and the ship, were moved to the Bavarian Filmstadt, where it can be seen on tours. The remainder of the houses can still be visited at the original location, where German information signs give an interesting mix of details about the movie, Viking life, and history. There is even a small exhibition on the plans for a large wicky theme park that sadly never came to be.
