About

The oldest American sports museum is also home to the only sporting equipment every used in outer space.

Alan Shepard's golf club that he used on the moon is on display at the United States Golf Association Museum in Far Hills, New Jersey. The club — actually a foldable tool used for collecting samples — was smuggled on board the Apollo 14 moon lander in 1971 in Shepard's sock, which is also held in the USGA Museum collections, although not on display.

The museum is located in a building designed by celebrated architect John Russell Pope near the headquarters of the United States Golf Association, and even has its own putting course where you can try your hand with antique clubs and balls. The museum itself is focused on golf as it relates to the history of the United States and beyond, including clubs from presidents like avid golfer Dwight D. Eisenhower, and others swung in Antarctica and on Mount Everest.
