Help improve Atlas Obscura by expanding The Hempcrete House with additional information or photos.
Florida’s first hempcrete house sits just off the main streets in the heart of Tarpon Springs. The 1,600 sq ft home with a front porch and stone trim was finished in 2012 after years of legal battles. The home was built by Build-con Services and Robert Clayton.
Breathable hempcrete is especially beneficial in the hot tropical climate of Florida. The material is recognized as a highly sustainable green-building alternative. Hempcrete makes up the flooring, insulation, roofing, and walls.
This is a private residence, so please be respectful.
