About

A plaque memorializes The Expulsion of the Acadians, a dark historic event known by many names: The Great Expulsion, the Great Upheaval, or The Grand Derangement ("Le Grande Derangement").

It marks the period from 1755-1764, when British and colonial settlers expelled and sent into forced exile the residents of the Canadian region of Acadia, located in current-day New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Over 10,000 Acadian people were deported after they refused to sign an oath of allegiance to the British during the French and Indian War.
