About

Along Pine Avenue on the small barrier island of Anna Maria, a historical society shares a glimpse into a long-past coastal life. Packed with artifacts from the pioneering era—like period clothing, furniture, antique maps, and historical photos—the Anna Maria Historical Society also maintains historic Belle Haven Cottage.

Originally built on the City Pier in 1920, Belle Haven Cottage was once used as a fish-packing plant and bait shop. It was also rented out to guests for a time. In 1926, the cottage fell into Tampa Bay due to faulty pilings but was rescued and became a family home for roughly a half a century.

In 2001, it was almost demolished, but was saved and moved to the historical park for restoration. In 2006, it opened to the public under the management of the historical society. Today, it’s open seasonally for docent-led tours that can be booked in advance.
