What We’ll Do

Join Kylie Holloway and Zak Martellucci for an insider experience of the museums you miss the most. On each show, we’ll celebrate an incredible museum and the people who work to make it great. We’ll explore the strange, sublime, and secret stories behind the work on display and we’ll close out the show with an exclusive conversation with a guest expert about the collection and how the museum world is coping with this uncertain time. Since we can't get to most museums in person at the moment, we're bringing you their amazing stories via a virtual presentation!

We'll be telling stories from the the Exploratorium and talking with Julie Yu, Senior Scientist!

The Exploratorium is a portal to the astonishing scientific phenomena that animate our world and shape our actions. We create extraordinary learning experiences that ignite curiosity, upend perceptions, and inspire brave leaps forward. Since 1969, the Exploratorium’s museum in San Francisco has been home to a renowned collection of exhibits that draw together science, art, and human perception, and that has changed the way science is taught. Our award-winning programs provide a forum for the public to engage with artists, scientists, policymakers, educators, and tinkerers to explore the world around them. We celebrate diversity of thought, inspired investigation, and collaboration across all boundaries.

Julie Yu is a Senior Scientist at the Exploratorium, San Francisco's museum of science, art, and human perception. She provides science content support throughout the museum and works with teachers to bring inquiry-based science learning to their classrooms. With a broad interest in all sciences, she has a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, with a minor in molecular and cell biology. Her work and research have spanned from viruses and stem cells to teacher learning and inquiry to concrete and cement. This has led to a myriad of opportunities, including teaching science to Tibetan monks and nuns, launching an explosion of 2000 ping pong balls, and acquiring a US patent. She is currently captivated with thinking about food as a way of bringing together key interests of science, culture, identity, and eating.
