What We’ll Do

Held in the Andalusian capital of Seville two weeks after the region's Holy Week, the Seville Fair, or Feria de Abril, is one of Spain's most important festivals. The weeklong celebration originated in 1846 as a livestock fair, but it quickly transformed into a celebration of much more than just the regions cows and sheep. Now, a full week of eating, drinking, dancing, and elaborate traditional dress, families and friends gather in their casetas to feast, before long nights of reverie. While many cities and towns in Spain now celebrate the Ferie de Abril, there is none quite as wonderous as in Seville.

Join Seville local Maria as she shares the history and traditions behind Seville’s most colorful celebration. You’ll discover the importance of this event for locals like Maria, and what goes on behind closed doors at private casetas. You'll also get a crash course in how to dress for the occasion, before learning to cook a traditional feria dish, our favorite fried fish, or pescaíto frito.

This experience is part of our Sunday Sabor series in partnership with Spain-based Devour Tours. Devour Tours connects people over food. Whether they're squeezing into their favorite Spanish tapas bar for a calamari sandwich or hosting a paella workshop online with guests from all over the world, they are passionate about introducing people to the food and stories that make cities unique. Through these interactive experiences, they aim to celebrate and preserve culinary traditions and history and support the small businesses that are the heart and soul of all communities.
