What We’ll Do

Get ready for a Halloween-inspired experience in art. In Learning the Language of Art – Ghosts and the Occult in Art Edition, we will have fun exploring the paranormal, witchcraft, and magic while deciphering the codes in them. If you’ve ever encountered art in a gallery or museum and thought it was “speaking” a foreign language you’re not alone, and deciphering symbols in works of art are not as impenetrable or mysterious as they can often seem.

Join visual artist and art lecturer Regina Mamou (Art Muse Los Angeles) as she takes us on a journey through the ideas and stories behind important works of art incorporating ghosts and the occult. We will focus on the 19th to 21st centuries to view supernatural elements in visual art, from the spirit photography of William H. Mumler to the cosmic art experiences of L. (aka Lazaros).

Learning the Language of Art – Ghosts and the Occult in Art Edition is a fun, unpretentious, and participatory show. We will unpack, demystify, and learn to converse about visual art through three “rounds” of tips, games, and group hilarity. If you’ve ever encountered strange, magical, or ghostly artwork at a museum or gallery that is a head-scratcher, we will break down the artwork’s main ideas, symbols, and clues while learning language and vocabulary to describe and explain it. This show is a chance to impress friends and family with your newfound appreciation and understanding of supernatural history. If you’ve ever felt like art is speaking a secret language, then let us help you speak it too!
